Valery Petrich co-founded the Yoga Studio in 1996 and is currently Director of The Yoga Studio North and Co-Director of the Yoga Studio College of Canada. She has been training teachers in Calgary since 1996 and has been a yoga practitioner since 1977.
She studied with Swami Radha at the Yasodhara Ashram in Kootenay Bay, B.C. as well as with B.K.S. Iyengar and his family in Pune, India in 1983 and 1985. The first entrepreneur-style studio to open in Calgary, the Yoga Studio has trained more than 200 teachers and birthed many new centres in Canada through its teacher training graduates.
Valery is Director of Kripa West Charity in support of Father Joe Pereira's work of healing addictions through yoga therapy. She is an initiate in the Himalayan Tradition of Yoga (Swami Rama). |
Valery's personal commitment is to meet the ever-growing demand for yoga as health and wellness across Canada by training quality teachers. Programs offered through the Yoga Studio College of Canada educate a variety of professionals in yoga as therapy and education. Some of the areas currently seeking trained yoga professionals are medical settings, counseling clinics and the caring professions working with those who are chemically dependent, facing mental or physical illness or in life transition.
Valery is a member of the Canadian Iyengar Yoga Teachers' Association and holds an internationally recognized certification with the C.I.Y.T.A. She is a member of the Yoga Association of Alberta and holds additional certification with the Y.A.A., Friedel Khattab School of Yoga, and South Mysore School of Yoga. She is also a certified Psychosynthesis facilitator through the Psychosynthesis Institute of Bellevue, WA.
